The BMW 3 Series has been manufactured since May 1975, and has – to date – been produced in seven distinct generations. It is BMW’s best-selling model, accounting for around 30% of BMW’s annual car sales, and numerous awards have been won by it, throughout its history.
The E46 (fourth generation) was sold 1998-2006. It was available in sedan, coupé, convertible, stationwagon, and hatchback.
This generation introduced a number of electronic and technical features to the 3 Series. These included electronic brake-force distribution, satellite navigation, rain-sensing wipers and LED tail-lights. A 4-wheel drive version (last available in the E30 series) was also added. It was also the first 3 series to offer a variable valve lift engine.
